St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Arapahoe first held services in 1880 that were conducted by Reverend A. Weathery. In 1882 the group of parishoners was authorized as a parish with George Burgess and Adolph d'Allemand serving as wardens.
The first church was purhased from fund raising activities plus a donation of $300.00 by the Bishop to equal the purchase amount of $800.00 of the old Baptist church. The church was considered a bargain as the cost to build the church was $2300.00. This building was located at the intersection of Highways 283 and 6 and 34.
In 1956 a new building was constructed and consecrated at the present location. One of the comments about the old church was that the stained glass windows in it were sold off to another church to raise funds for the new church. There were four children baptized that day, October 22,1956 by the Rev. Russell T. Rauscher. The church was landscaped in 1962 in the memory of Ralph Cox.
In1968 ground for the vicarage was purchased and the residence was built in 1969. Reverend Royce Brown was the first resident priest.
The church has been served by many priests over the years. The longest serving vicar was R.A. Johnson who served from 1928 to 1945.
The 75th Anniversary was celebrated with a banquet in the undercroft of the church. The church history includes the name of Gertrude Snyder, a 70 yr member who served in many capacties, but most notably as organist. George Proud was a church member who was noted for serving 36 years on the vestry.
The Bishop James D. Warner celebrated the 100th Anniversary with confirmation, communion and a centennial dinner at the country club south of Arapahoe.
The Church has shared pastors with both Holdrege and Lexington. In 2005, St. Paul's was blessed with our present pastor, Jami Anderson who serves both Holdrege and Arapahoe. Reverend Anderson has made St Paul's presence in our community a stronger and growing ministry. The gifts of our parishoners and pastor are shared with others through out the community and through out the diocese. Our prayer is that St. Paul's may continue to inspire people to the love of Christ for another 125 years.
The 125th Anniversary was celebrated with a service conducted by past priests who had served the congregation , a community picnic and a 4th of July parade group of young and old.
